Percent of Us with a Disability
Summary: More than one in 10 of us lives with a disability. This number has decreased; it was 20% higher in 2011-2015. Keeping track of how many of us live with a disability helps us ensure we are providing a cultural and built environment that is welcoming and safe for all of us.
Details: The Census defines disability as one who has hearing, vision, cognitive, ambulatory, self-care, and/or independent-living difficulty.

Percent of Us with a Disability by Age
Trend: The percent of us over age 65 with a disability has decreased, while the percent of children with a disability has increased slightly. Understanding these age categories helps us understand what kinds of resources are needed.
